The Arena District is a 75-acre, mixed-use urban infill, master planned development located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. It is characterized by its New Urbanism layout, mixed-use, and neo-classical American design. The architecture is of the Chicago School style, being influenced by Daniel Burnham in particular. It features a variety of restaurants, office space, entertainment venues and residencies. The neighborhood centers around Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Columbus Destroyers. The district is also the planned site of Huntington Park, which will be the new home for the Columbus Clippers. It is developed, managed and marketed by Nationwide Realty Investors, the real estate development affiliate of Nationwide, which is headquartered in Columbus.
Before its creation, in the late 1990s, the area was home to the closed-down Ohio Penitentiary.
