John Paul Stevens (born April 20, 1920) is currently the most senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He joined the Court in 1975 and is the oldest and longest serving incumbent member of the Court. Although he was appointed to the court by a Republican President, Gerald R. Ford, Stevens is widely considered to be on the more liberal side of the court. He is the only current Associate Justice to have served under three Chief Justices.
